I’m kind of glad to hear that everyone does this. Because it means it isn’t colonizer bullshit, it’s what everyone does. It’s just people discovering new things. Everyone goes:

“Oh hey these people have their own style of [language A’s word for thing. Say, what do you call it?”

“Oh it’s [language B’s word for thing].”

“Got it, it’s [language B’s word for thing] variety [language A’s word for thing]”

added to which it is LITERALLY JUST LINGUISTIC SHORTHAND for

[item] the way [culture] makes it.

If you don’t want sliced bread, you want bread the way Eastern Indians make it you ask for Roti, not bread. Because Roti is bread THE WAY [EASTERN] INDIANS MAKE IT. Like fuck, it’s not that complicated a concept.

OF COURSE it’s not colonizer bullshit! It’s just linguistic shorthand!

So many people getting pissed at a woman for prioritizing women’s safety by creating a woman-exclusive space and choosing not to indulge men and people who weren’t born women.

Why is it so hard to understand? When a woman has just been assaulted by a man, the last person she wants to be around is another strange man.

And yet here are so many woke people missing this point entirely, whining and scraping the barrel for controversial “news” and “data” that could put this center in bad light, when really you’re against a place meant for women who are victims of abuse.

You’re against a place meant for women who are victims of abuse.

You’re against the fact that measures are being taken to make women who are victims of abuse feel safe.

What does that say about you?

they didnt give a fuck when men raped and murdered prostitutes but the moment that very same group of men started to get murdered by a prostitute they executed her and branded her as one of the most evil and deranged killers in american history.. i see. very interesting.

The top two US serial killers, Samuel Little (93 victims) and Gary Ridgeway (90+ victims), exclusively murdered prostituted women.

Aileen killed just 7 men.

not only are female prostitutes more likely to be victims of serial killers, but serial killers who kill prostitutes amass a greater number of victims and get away with it longer than killers who don’t target prostitutes (source). aileen was a victim of male violence all her life, and when she turned that violence back on them, the state executed her for it.

A large part of housecat vocalisation toward humans isn’t goal-directed communication, but rather, affiliative signaling: a simple call-and-response protocol which establishes that the participants are part of the same social unit. Amongst themselves, most housecat affiliative signaling is non-vocal, but humans aren’t really physiologically equipped to respond to such signalling in a feline fashion, and cats, well, they’re adaptable.

Which is to say that when your cat yells, and you yell back, so the cat yells again, and so forth, what you’re really saying to each other is “hiiiiii~”.

image

This is why it is important to meow at loved ones.

A largish percentage of human vocalizations are this, too!  When your human co-worker says “Workin’ hard or hardly workin’?” or comments on atmospheric conditions or other readily-observable features of your surroundings, or generally statements that seemingly convey no useful or novel information whatsoever, the true purpose of these vocalizations is to develop and/or maintain the social unit of the workplace!   In effect, they are saying, “We are experiencing this situation together.  We often experience situations together.  Let’s be allies!”

Some humans will even make vocalizations of this kind to complete strangers, such as when waiting in a line or using public transportation.  This behavior is especially common in situation that may involve some form of inconvenience or frustration, such as waiting in a long line or experiencing a delay.  In these contexts, the vocalizations communicate, “We are both experiencing the same unpleasant situation; let’s not make it worse by being aggressive to one another.”

Talking to older women will make you realize that mat leave and birth control and women being allowed to wear pants are all new things within living memory. My grandma told me yesterday how she was forced to quit her job if she got pregnant, and wasn’t allowed to wear pants for the first couple decades of work. When she got near retirement she had to go back and prove she lost a few years of work from being forced to quit while pregnant; fortunately she was heard and got her full pension.

All that is within living memory. Someone is alive who lived through that. So many of the rights we have today were achieved so recently. I think sometimes young women forget that, myself included. Things are very different now but we are one of the first generations for whom this difference exists. There is still more to be done.

OKAY THIS ONE IS POPPING OFF NOW so reblogging to add this is relevant to Canada because some of you are adding very relevant tags about how this STILL isn’t the norm in lots of places.

I feel…a lot of times…people wanna be told whether or not things are good or bad, instead of doing the individual work to figure out of things are bad or not. You have to have your own ethical code and ethos. You have to have a spine for yourself, or else anybody could tell you literally anything. Which is what most of yall on this website do anyways, so you end up agreeing with whoever you’re following instead of using your noggin.
